  The Department of Neurosurgery at the Joe R. and Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine at The University of Texas Health San Antonio is seeking a fellowship-trained Neurointensivist for a faculty position at the Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Professor level to join its Division of Neurocritical Care.  Come and work in a state-of-the art neuroICU with a diverse group of neurointensivists, neurosurgeons, neurologists, fellows, and mid-level providers.  Our current team consists of two full-time intensivist, mid-level providers, a rotating intern, and a rotating fellow to run an 18 bed unit with the capacity to expand to 26 beds. In addition, we have a newly accredited neurocritical care fellowship. 

 

We are looking for intensivists who are outstanding teachers, procedurally strong, thrive in a team-oriented environment, and are excited to work collaboratively in an academic setting with a Level 1 Trauma Center and Comprehensive Stroke designations. The ICU has the support of  a dedicated neuropharmacist, 24 hour EEG support, portable CT scanner, and outstanding support staff.  Neurocritical care is the primary service for patients in our unit and also provides consultative services for patients throughout the hospital. 

   

Applicants with demonstrated experience, an aptitude for leadership, and those who have demonstrative initiative for academic productivity are encouraged to apply. Candidates are encouraged to have clinical, basic, or translational research interests, but are expected to have active scholarly production.  Our research labs, headed by an outstanding PhD researcher, are equipped for in-depth studies of ischemia, neuroprotection, cell cultures, brain and spinal cord injury, and molecular genetics research of the cranial facial skeleton. 

 

Qualifications for this position include:

 

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school
  • Residency training in, neurology, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, emergency medicine or internal medicine

  • Board certified/eligible in Neurocritical Care through UCNS

  • Meet the requirement for medical licensure to practice in the State of Texas

  • Ability to have privileges at all affiliated sites of practice


Academic rank, salary and benefits will be commensurate with training and experience.  All faculty appointments are designated as security sensitive positions.
