Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Associate Dean of Admissions, Student Success, and Engagement, the Director of Admissions and Special Programs is responsible for a comprehensive, integrated, and data-driven recruitment, admissions, and enrollment plan to recruit undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Nursing. The Director works with faculty and staff to recruit and admit exceptional, diverse students to further the school’s mission and vision. The Director will provide high quality customer service to prospective students and their families throughout the admissions life cycle up to enrollment. Supervises the admissions team comprised of two admissions officers and an administrative assistant.

Job Duties:

  1. Implement developed admission policies and procedures for all nursing programs. Create and update recruitment materials for all programs and statistically analyze recruitment and admissions outcomes. Attain annual matriculation goals set forth by nursing leadership that embody qualified and diverse students. Closely monitor and identify admission trends in nursing that impact the school’s practice and recommend new program initiatives to nursing administration and faculty.
  2. Organize and maintain an active recruitment calendar designed to strategically maximize exposure of the nursing programs and target prospective students in key markets. This includes, local, state, and national nursing conferences, graduate and professional fairs, health professions fairs, and college visits. Oversee the planning of recruitment events to promote student recruitment through open houses, informational sessions, and welcome events.
  3. Through the Liaison Enrollment Marketing Platform (EMP), implement a communications and visibility plan that strengthens the school’s reputation with professional audiences and its attractiveness to prospective students. Effectively use data collected from recruitment events and website inquiries to significantly engage prospective students throughout the application and admissions process.
  4. Oversee all aspects of the application process through NursingCAS the Centralized Application System for Nursing Programs; manage real time data and documents of applicants; build and modify data points to facilitate management of admissions process.
  5. Manage all aspects of application review by the holistic admissions committee; oversee evaluation of applications; organize and recruit admissions committee members as needed; and manage the notification of candidates of admissions decisions.
  6. Coordinate the completion of required admission items, including but not limited to, immunizations, background checks, CPR certification, RN licensure, transcripts, and pre-entry trainings for all admitted nursing students. Work with the Texas Board of Nursing to ensure applicant eligibility in program for applicants with a criminal history.
  7. Prepare weekly admissions statistical reports using data visualization software to evaluate admissions process; conduct end-of-admission cycle evaluation reports to guide strategic planning. Provide admissions reports required by the institution, Texas Board of Nursing, Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, and all accrediting agencies.
  8. Collaborate with institutional partners (including but not limited to: University Registrar, Marketing, Communications, and Media, Academic Affairs, and the Student Success Center) to serve prospective and admitted students. Assist with the processing of international visitors and scholars.  
  9. Oversee the hiring, training, and supervision of admissions staff and student workers. Develop and mentor direct report(s) to establish a plan for career growth. Monitor employee and office procedures consistent with university policies. Promote high level of performance, achievement of goals, and quality of results through continuous evaluation.
  10. Administer admissions and recruitment budget and ensure funds are being expended appropriately.
  11. Directs facilitated school admissions programs, specialty academies and undergraduate mentoring programs.
  12. Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees; setting and adjusting rates of pay and hours of work; planning and directing work; appraising productivity and efficiency, handling complaints/grievances and disciplining when necessary.
  13. Performs all other duties as assigned.

Education:

Bachelor's degree related field is required.

Experience:

Five (5) years in admissions and programs involved in student recruitment experience is required.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree in higher education administration or related field from an accredited university.
  • Enrollment management experience within higher education
  • Experience with admissions processing using a Centralized Application System or specifically using NursingCAS
  • Experience with Liaison’s Enrollment Marketing Platform (EMP) or a similar Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Experience in recruiting students into nursing or health professions, particularly at Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) or Professional Schools.
  • Experience with financial forecasting and budget
