Medical Office Billing Clerk-Intermediate (Anesthesiology)

Job Summary:
The position is responsible for providing administrative support to all aspects of the revenue cycle in the Department of Anesthesiology. The revenue cycle includes hospital-based services, outpatient clinic services, and ambulatory surgery services. The primary function of this position will be to support and monitor the various functional areas of the revenue cycle under the direction of the Business Office Healthcare Manager.
Job Duties:
1. Collect and coordinate billing documents such as missing operative reports, paper anesthesia records, billing sheets and other documents as needed. Organize and upload documentation using an internal billing system. Work billing queues within the billing system to prepare documents for the coding team.
2. Ability to effectively communicate and respond to billing inquiries from providers, coding staff, and management both verbally and in writing. Aptitude to identify billing and complex patient issues to report to management for resolution. Work in collaboration with UT Medicine coders.
3. Assist management in assessing success of revenue cycle monthly budget targets and performance metrics such as lag days. Identifying impediments to timely and efficient processing of billing documents. Apply basic troubleshooting skills and resolution and report complex issues to management.
4. Compile and analyze information for inclusion in reports or presentation materials. Prepare charts, spreadsheets, or tables as necessary. Assist management in planning and implementing improvements in the revenue cycle function based on assembled data.
5. Ability to function in an electronic medical record environment with programs such as Nexus, Epic, Sunrise and PICIS. Monitor and report any IT issues to ensure timely resolution of billing.
Education:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of related experience to include clinical experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience in a clinical setting and proven ability to effectively communicate with medical staff.
- Advanced 10-key typing skills proven ability to capture billing information in high volume setting.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products.
